OpenAI Rolls Out GPT-4.1, a New Non-Reasoning Language Model

By Netvora Tech News

OpenAI is introducing GPT-4.1, a new non-reasoning large language model (LLM) that strikes a balance between high performance and lower cost, to users of ChatGPT. The rollout begins with paying subscribers on ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team, with Enterprise and Education user access expected in the coming weeks. The new model is designed to provide a seamless experience for users, offering flexibility to choose between different models depending on their needs. The "more models" dropdown selection in the top corner of the chat window within ChatGPT allows users to switch between GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini, and reasoning models such as o3, o4-mini, and o4-mini-high. GPT-4.1 mini replaces GPT-4o mini as the default model for all ChatGPT users, including those on the free tier. This "mini" version provides a smaller-scale parameter and thus, a less powerful version with similar safety standards. Initially, GPT-4.1 was intended for use only by third-party software and AI developers through OpenAI's application programming interface (API). However, following strong user feedback, the company has added the model to ChatGPT, making it accessible to a broader range of users.

An Enterprise-Focused Model

GPT-4.1 is designed with enterprise users in mind, offering a more efficient and cost-effective solution for large-scale language processing tasks.

Context, Speed, and Model Access

The new model provides users with a more context-aware experience, allowing them to access a range of models with varying levels of power and complexity. This increased flexibility gives users more control over their language processing tasks, enabling them to make informed decisions about which model to use for specific tasks.
