Medical Device Manufacturer Masimo Struggles to Process Orders After Cyberattack

By Netvora Tech News

Masimo, a leading manufacturer of medical devices and technology, has disclosed to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that it is unable to process or deliver customer orders due to a recent cyberattack. The company has not revealed the nature of the incident, but cybersecurity expert Kevin Beaumont believes it may be a ransomware attack. Masimo produces devices and technology for monitoring patients and telehealth solutions. Since 2022, the company has also been offering health-focused wearables. In late April, Masimo discovered "unauthorized activity" on its own network, prompting the isolation of systems and an investigation. As a result, Masimo's factories are unable to operate normally, impacting the processing and delivery of customer orders.

Details of the Incident Remain Scarce

The company has not provided further details about the incident, including the nature of the attack and when systems were restored. Beaumont, however, believes the attack was a ransomware attack, citing the fact that Masimo's website was down for five days, as well as phone numbers for customer support and online systems. "They quietly fixed their website and then filed a report with the SEC," he said.

Potential Consequences for Patients and Customers

The impact of the cyberattack on Masimo's operations has raised concerns about the potential consequences for patients and customers who rely on the company's devices and services. With the company unable to process orders, there may be delays in the delivery of critical medical equipment and technology.

  • Masimo's devices are used in hospitals and healthcare facilities around the world.
  • The company's telehealth solutions enable remote patient monitoring and diagnosis.
  • Its wearables offer patients a convenient and non-invasive way to track their health and wellness.
The consequences of the cyberattack will likely be closely watched by the medical device industry and cybersecurity experts alike, as it highlights the importance of robust security measures to protect against these types of attacks.
