Government Officials to Brief Parliament on Online Age Verification
By Netvora Tech News
Government officials from the Ministry of the Interior will brief the Dutch Parliament's Committee on Digital Affairs next week on online age verification. The public technical briefing, announced by State Secretary Szabo for Digitalization, will cover various aspects of online age verification, including the pros and cons of a single law, European developments, and technical possibilities. The briefing comes as the Parliament has already adopted two motions on online age verification this year. One motion calls for the legal guarantee of "privacy-friendly and reliable age verification" for visiting gambling and pornographic websites, while the other aims to safeguard privacy in legally necessary age verification. In April, MPs from the Christian Union and Nieuw Sociaal Contract initiated a motion with proposals, including a proof of concept for online age verification. This would involve testing various technologies for online age verification. Additionally, the MPs want to establish an interdepartmental task force to comprehensively address policy and implementation of online age verification. The technical briefing is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
