Google Enhances Android Security with Advanced Protection
By Netvora Tech News
Google is set to introduce Advanced Protection, a new feature in the latest version of Android, designed to provide users with an additional layer of security against targeted attacks. This feature is similar to Apple's Lockdown Mode and aims to minimize the attack surface by implementing various security measures.
Logging and Cloud Storage
One of the key components of Advanced Protection is the ability to store log files in the cloud as soon as an attack is detected on a device. This feature will also prevent devices from automatically reconnecting to unsecured Wi-Fi networks.
Physical and Digital Security
Advanced Protection will also focus on the physical security of devices, apps, messages, networks, and the web. For instance, it will automatically restart locked devices after 72 hours, making it more difficult for forensic analysis. Another feature includes USB protection, where the USB port will only charge new devices when a phone is locked, and no connection will be made to previously used unsecured Wi-Fi networks.
Intrusion Logging and End-to-End Encryption
When an attack is suspected, information will be sent to Google's cloud, with end-to-end encryption applied to ensure users retain control over their security data.
Additional Security Features
Advanced Protection will also enable various other security options that Android already offers, including:
- Blocking 2G networks
- Warning users about unknown links in Google Messages
- Restricting downloads to pre-loaded app stores
- Enabling MTE memory protection
- Detecting theft
- Locking devices when suspicious movement is detected, often associated with theft
