Curl Bans Users Who Submit AI-Generated Bug Reports

By Netvora Tech News

Developers of Curl, a widely used library and command-line tool for sending and receiving data over various network protocols, have decided to ban anyone who submits an AI-generated bug report via HackerOne. This decision was communicated by Curl maintainer Daniel Stenberg via LinkedIn. Curl makes use of HackerOne to receive bug reports. HackerOne allows software companies, governments, and other organizations to organize bug bounty programs for researchers, who can then search for vulnerabilities in websites and applications. HackerOne coordinates between the bug reporter and the compromised or vulnerable party. Stenberg has previously complained about AI-generated bug reports that came in via HackerOne. Just two days ago, it happened again, as revealed by an publicly posted "bug report". In response, Stenberg announced that he wants to put an end to the "craziness". From now on, anyone submitting a bug report must first indicate whether they used AI to generate it. If the Curl team finds that submitted bug reports are "AI slop", the corresponding bug reporter will be banned and unable to submit new bug reports. According to Stenberg, the limit has been reached. "We're basically just getting 'ddos'd", he states. Stenberg notes that Curl has received no legitimate bug reports that used AI.
